What is FUE Hair Transplant Method
FUE Hair Transplant Method – All that you need to know
FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction
Hair Transplant is a highly popular and evolving surgical hair restoration
technique used all over the world to help alopecia patients regain a lost or
receding hairline. It is an invasive cosmetic procedure in which hair are
extracted from a permanent or baldness resistant zone (the back or sides of the
scalp) and are transplanted on the thinning and balding areas of head – typically
frontal region or center of the scalp.
How FUE Hair Transplant is performed?
The first step in FUE Hair
Transplantation is cutting short the hair in donor site so that the surgeon
could clearly see your scalp. Local anesthesia is then administered to the
donor area to numb the scalp. The next step involves harvesting follicular unit
grafts – one at a time – using a micro-punch with diameter typically ranging
from 0.7 millimeter to 1 millimeter. The extracted hair follicles are collected
in an artificial environment – saline solution, buffers, antioxidants and
nutrients – to keep them alive outside the human body.
Once enough number of follicular
hair grafts have been extracted, the surgery proceeds with site creation and
transplantation phase. The thinning or balding area is first prepared for the
plantation of extracted follicles. Site creation involves making tiny incisions
in the recipient areas of the scalp, be it frontal region or the center of
scalp. Then the surgeon will place the follicular units in these tiny holes –
one graft in each hole. A lot of care, experience and artistic sense is
required to aesthetically transplant the hair so that they don’t look
artificial on your head.
Why is FUE hair transplant so popular?
There are several other
techniques as well used for hair transplantation but the popularity and demand
for Follicular Unit Extraction has increased significantly over the last
decade. Three major reason behind popularity of FUE are:
i.
It is less invasive in nature
ii.
It has potentially faster healing time
iii.
It does not cause linear scar on the donor
area associated with FUT Hair Transplant or strip method
Who is an ideal candidate for FUE hair transplant?
Individuals with thick and
healthy hair growth in the donor areas – at the back and sides of the scalp –
are ideal for FUE hair transplant. However, several other factors also affect
cosmetic results of the surgery and your surgeon may also consider them while
assessing you for FUE hair transplant. These include:
·
The number of follicular unit grafts required to
achieve optimum results
·
The number of grafts which can be extracted from
the donor sites
·
The patient’s hair loss pattern
·
Cause of hair loss
·
Texture and color of hair, and
·
Skin type
